AgriSkills Forum 2025: Shaping the Future of Agriculture


The AgriSkills Forum, held on 15 September 2025 at the WA College of Agriculture, Cunderdin, brought together educators, industry leaders, and training providers to explore how Western Australia can develop a skilled, adaptable agricultural workforce. The forum featured presentations from CSIRO, TAFE, and industry networks, as well as a tour of Cunderdin Ag College facilities.

 

The forum reinforced a shared commitment to building a future-ready agricultural workforce, linking education, training, and industry to ensure agriculture remains an exciting and viable career choice for future generations.

The Cook Labor Government is supporting diverse job opportunities for women, with fee-free and low-fee TAFE courses providing more training options and scholarships to encourage their involvement in non-traditional trades

 

The Women in Non-Traditional Trades Scholarship opens doors to training and qualifications in industries where women remain underrepresented.   This unique scholarship offers $5,000 in financial support to women, or those who identify as women, enrolled in eligible apprenticeships, traineeships or qualifications at WA TAFE colleges.   

 

Scholarships Available under the remit of FFTITC include:

  • Cabinet Making (NM TAFE and SM TAFE)

  • Flooring (NM TAFE)

  • Glass and Glazing (NM TAFE)

  • Manufactured Textile Products (NM TAFE)

  • Upholstery (NM TAFE)

  • Agricultural Mechanical Technician (Central Regional TAFE; South Regional TAFE)

The latest Occupation Shortage List (OSL), showing an easing in labour market conditions. In 2025, 29% of occupations were in national shortage, down from 33% in 2024 and 36% at the peak in 2023.


North Metropolitan TAFE is exploring the opportunity to add Certificate III in Parks and Gardens to its scope of delivery. To progress this, they need to demonstrate strong industry demand and are asking employers and other stakeholders to complete the survey. 

 

In 2024, compared with 2023, the number of VET in Schools students increased by 5.8%, reaching its highest level since the collection began in 2006, an increase of 55.4%

 

The Aquaculture Council of WA is hosting an online workshop.  Guests include leading experts Dr Arani Chandrapavan (Senior Fisheries Scientist, DPIRD), Prof Gretta Pecl OM (Director of the Centre for Marine Socioecology and IPCC lead author), and Dr Hannah Fogarty (Research Fellow, Centre for Marine Socioecology) discussing WA climate projections, potential risks, industry considerations, and how businesses can build resilience.

TAC Registered RTOs are invited to the VET Student Support webinar which will guide RTOs through the updated requirements of Outcome Standards 2.1 and 2.2 under the Registration Standards 2025, focusing on the critical steps that must occur before enrolment. Mon, Oct 27, 2025, 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM 

 

The Roadshow is a chance to hear from JSA, state and territory governments, and local experts through presentations and panel discussions. They will explore the current workforce and opportunities for future jobs and skills. It’s also an opportunity to connect with stakeholders from across sectors and regions and with JSA staff at the information booths and demonstrations. JSA will be in Perth 18 November 2025.
