AgriSkills Forum 2025: Shaping the Future of Agriculture
The AgriSkills Forum, held on 15 September 2025 at the WA College of Agriculture, Cunderdin, brought together educators, industry leaders, and training providers to explore how Western Australia can develop a skilled, adaptable agricultural workforce. The forum featured presentations from CSIRO, TAFE, and industry networks, as well as a tour of Cunderdin Ag College facilities.
Agricultural Trade Apprenticeship
A key highlight was the Agricultural Trade Pathway Project, aiming to establish a prestigious, nationally recognised apprenticeship. The program is designed to provide real workplace experience, attract new entrants, and support career progression. Discussions focused on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and sector-specific pathways to meet the needs of a modern agricultural workforce.
Envisioning Ag2050
Delegates also explored Ag2050, a forward-looking initiative to shape Australia’s agricultural future. Key priorities include:
Designing systems to support agricultural transition
Collaborating with Indigenous communities for inclusive decision-making
Tackling climate change and technology-driven productivity challenges
Ag2050 encourages diverse voices and evidence-based strategies to ensure a resilient, innovative, and sustainable sector by 2050.
Engaging Young People
The proposed 5-day Agricultural Career Taster Program aims to immerse Year 9–10 students in hands-on experiences with AgTech, sustainability, and future career pathways, supported by industry partners and accredited supervision.
The forum reinforced a shared commitment to building a future-ready agricultural workforce, linking education, training, and industry to ensure agriculture remains an exciting and viable career choice for future generations. Forum PowerPoints and a summary of the Agricultural Career Taster Program discussions can be found below.
