National Research by NCVER echoes the outcomes of a recent FFTITC Forum: Building Pathways Together: Skills on Country Forum Inspires Connection and Action
The FFTITC hosted a Skills in Country Forum in March, and we thank those who attended.
You might recall we circulated the outcomes of the conversation we had during the Forum. An interesting report has recently been released by NCVER that not surprisingly echoes much of the outcomes of our discussions during that day.
The NCVER Report “Place-based and culturally responsive VET for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Learners” highlights how culturally responsive learning can improve outcomes for Aboriginal learners.

Upcoming Forum - Career Pathway for Trial Plot Technicians
Date: Thursday 2 July at 1pm, FFTITC Offices.
The meeting will focus on identifying suitable training content for Trial Plot Technicians, including the skills, knowledge, and practical capabilities required for the role. We will consider both on-the-job and off-the-job training options, and discuss the types of training that would best support entry into, and progression within, this occupation.

The Cook Labor Government has granted an aquaculture licence to Fremantle-based company SeaStock Pty Ltd for Western Australia's first commercial scale, land-based seaweed production facility, now under construction in Oakford.
The Productivity Commission is seeking views on barriers to business dynamism in Australia, including obstacles to starting, growing, transferring and closing businesses.
A new paper called Skills, Mobility and Productivity: Why Australia needs a skills-first tertiary education system, argues that a stronger focus on skills is essential as the labour market adapts to major changes including artificial intelligence, digital transformation, population ageing and the transition to a net-zero economy.
Developed in partnership with the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), these resources (Years 7–10) explores the science, sustainability and innovation behind Australian grain production. Through classroom activities, students will investigate twelve key topics including crop production, digital agriculture, future foods, climate resilience, genetics and emerging technologies.
Work is underway to develop an Agricultural Trade Qualification that gives learners clearer pathways into the industry and stronger recognition of their skills.
The Certificate II in Rural Operations has been updated to reflect feedback on its content and title. It is now available for final review and comments.
