Welcome to New Board Member Mr Troy van Heemst + our Strategic Planning Workshop.

 

New Board Member Mr Troy van Heemst

The Food, Fibre and Timber Industries Training Council (FFTITC) Inc Board was pleased to welcome Mr Troy van Heemst, President of Thoroughbred Breeders WA as a representative for the Racing and Horse Breeding Sector. 

 

Mr van Heemst brings with him extensive experience in the thoroughbred industry. With a Bachelor of Commerce, and a Diploma in Horse Business Management, Troy currently manages the family’s Lynward Park Stud in Bullsbrook.

 

Strategic Planning Workshop

The Food, Fibre and Timber Industries Training Council recently held a two day workshop which served as a critical opportunity for the FFTITC Board and staff to map out a responsive, strategic direction for the Council. With a strong focus on supporting the industries FFTITC represents, participants explored ways to improve industry engagement, adapt to evolving workforce needs, and better align with vocational education and training developments.

World Environment Day is on this Thursday 5 June 2025

The day encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment.  World Environment Day in 2025 will focus on ending plastic pollution.  There are lots of great jobs in Conservation and Ecosystem Management and you can get into a career managing our natural environments, where you can make a positive difference in the world.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) has launched a fantastic series of short videos showcasing the broad range of roles available across the industry — from science and technology to sustainability, business, and beyond.

 

In conjunction with TextileWorks, Skills Insight’s has released its final project report looking at the opportunities and challenges facing the textiles, clothing and footwear workforce and to assess if the national qualifications meet their needs.

 

This research investigated how registered training organisations (RTOs) could better support the needs of students throughout their learner journey for them to succeed in their training.

Skills Insight and ForestWorks are continuing efforts to support skills development in manual tree felling. This project builds on the 2023-24 Tree Felling Project which revised and updated three units for manual tree felling. 

 

The Wildcare Helpline provides a service for the public who find sick or injured native wildlife and are seeking advice on where to find care for the animal.  They are after volunteers who answer incoming calls and connect members of the public with their nearest licensed wildlife rehabilitator
