Meet our FFTTIC Board Member - Glenice Batchelor

Glenice is currently Executive Officer for Merredin and Districts Farming Improvement Group (MADFIG)
As Executive Officer, Glenice works with farmers to aims to help growers and industry members connect, learn and network from localised research, development, extension. MADFIG also focuses on supporting young farmers and utilisation of new technologies such as drones, robotics and other ag technology.
Glenice is also a Director of Perth NRM and that brings in her love of the environment and it’s a good combination. She runs a small farm Hill Top with her husband where they run sheep, cattle, and an aquaculture venture. And they also host hip-campers at their farm.
So, Glenice brings along a wealth of industry knowledge to FFTITC, including ecology, agriculture, horticulture and aquaculture.
Why you are on the FFTITC Board?
On reflection Glenice found that her TAFE qualifications gave her the skills and confidence she needed, and she said ‘I totally believe in the value of training. It is a brilliant way to learn how to do your job with the best knowledge and currency.”
Glenice wants to support training in WA, particularly in the things she loves the most which is agriculture, horticulture, and conservation land management. Being a member of the FFTITC board and being able to support that just reinforces what’s important.
What workforce issue/need/trend is currently important for your industry?
“Agricultural training and workforce development is changing so much right now from traditional work into AgTech " said Glenice. “I actually think it’s got to be a blend of both and we’ve got to bring everyone along with us".
Glenice also believes that climate change is a major issue because it’s causing a lot of disruption to agriculture, with industry having to look at different strategies to combat the changes to WA growing conditions.
